Granulated Chlorine comes in powder. Calcium Hypochlorite is a product with a good chlorine concentration (between 65% - 70%). Simply dilute in a pail full of warm water before adding it to the pool water. This type of chlorine is not stabilized. Therefore, a stabilizer must be added in the beginning of the season to protect chlorine from the sun’s UV rays.
This product, often named ’trichloro’’, comes in a 200 gram tablet and is of slow dissolution. This type of chlorine can be placed in a chlorinator at the water line, in a floating chlorinator or directly in the skimmer. This product is stabilized. Therefore, the addition of a stabilizer is not required.
This is a sanitizing system used in swimming pools. This system produces chlorine automatically from the salt added to the pool water. The salt molecule is broken down by electrolysis which produces chlorine. Consult the manufacturer’s manual for the recommended salt levels.
Liquid Chlorine, also called Sodium Hypochlorite has a low chlorine concentration (only 10% to 12%). It is often used in the beginning of the season to open the pool. This type of chlorine is not stabilized. Therefore, a stabilizer must be added in the beginning of the season to protect chlorine from the sun’s UV rays.
This product, often called ‘’dichloro’’, comes in powder. It is extra fine chlorine that dissolves instantly. It has a 56% concentration. This is high quality chlorine and unlike the other types of chlorine, it doesn’t affect the water’s pH. This product is stabilized. Therefore, the addition of a stabilizer is not required.
