Introduction

RBF offers you a maintenance calendar for your salt water pool. A simple and efficient way to keep your swimming pool water crystal clear all summer.

Understanding how your salt water swimming pool works to provide better maintenance

Salt water pool owners are often convinced that maintenance is no longer necessary when you purchase a salt system. That is false!

A salt system replaces one product only: chlorine.

A salt system usually consists of three parts: a cell, a control box and a water flow sensor. The most important part is the cell, since it transforms salt water into chlorine by electrolysis. People who own a salt system believe that there is no chlorine in the pool when in fact, there is. A pool without chlorine could not be disinfected. The salt system cell is like a small chlorine manufactory. With the dial on the control box, you can determine the daily time period you want the cell to produce chlorine. Each case is equipped with a production dial. In most cases, this dial is used to manage chlorine production in percentage (%).

Unlike the competition, the E25/E35 produces according to a power percentage instead of a production time percentage. So if you set the dial to 40%, it means
that the cell will produce chlorine at 40% of its maximum capacity throughout the day. In addition, the polarity is reversible every 4 hours.

The cell has a lifetime. Its lifetime is measured in the quantity of chlorine it produces. Consider a cell whose lifetime (chlorine production) would be 113 kg (250 lb) of chlorine. If you program the machine unnecessarily at 100 %, it will produce 113 kg of chlorine in 2 years. This would be very harmful to your pool equipment. Once the cell has produced 113 kg of chlorine, it will need to be changed, which is very expensive. You know you’ve programmed the system at the right level, when your chlorine level is maintained at the proper value, between 1 and 3 ppm. The calendar tells you what maintenance is required during the summer to maximize the life of your cell at a lower cost. This schedule will reduce the system’s production percentage to increase the life of your cell. It will also help keep your water parameters at the appropriate levels.

Total Alkalinity: 80 - 120 ppm
Calcium Hardness: 200 - 300 ppm
Stabilizer: 30 - 50 ppm
pH: 7.2 - 7.8
Chlorine: 1 - 3 ppm

One of the most important things to remember when you own a salt water pool is to clean the cell.

How to read and understand the salt water swimming pool maintenance calendar

The maintenance calendar will indicate the procedure to help prevent premature wear and tear of your salt system and maintain clear and sparkling water all summer. To know the required quantities, read the Directions for Use on the label of each product mentioned in this calendar. During weekly maintenance (Weeks 1 to 17), it is recommended to wait 30 minutes between each product before adding the next. The order in which the products are added is not important.

  1. 1 It is important to use Cell Klean to clean your salt chlorinator’s cell at the beginning or end of season in order to remove scale, body oils and organic debris that build up on the blades. It will improve your salt chlorinator’s efficiency and extend its lifetime. When cleaning the cell, remember to get the Cell Stand that will allow you to keep the cell standing during the soaking period.
  2. 2 The Atlantis Salt Opening Kit is specially designed for salt water swimming pools. This kit will facilitate your swimming pool opening and protect your salt chlorinator against corrosion and scale build-up at the beginning of season. Once pool water is clear and sparkling, you can move on to the next step of your swimming pool opening.
  3. 3 In order to maintain clear and sparkling water during the swimming season, make sure to have your water analyzed regularly by your retailer to adjust and maintain the following parameters: total alkalinity, calcium hardness and stabilizer.
  4. 4 Salt Shock is a shock treatment specially designed for salt water swimming pools. It must be used regularly to counter the lack of chlorine your pool can undergo during long periods of heat and heavy usage.
  5. Don't forget the Stabilizer. It helps prevent the sun’s ultraviolet rays from destroying the free chlorine in your pool water. Chlorine is produced by your salt chlorinator. Adding Stabilizer at the beginning of season will help save up to 40% of chlorine during the summer. Keep stabilizer level between 30 and 50 ppm.
  6. 6 Finally at the end of season, the Atlantis Salt Closing Kit is a simple and efficient solution to close your swimming pool in planning for next year’s swimming season.
